A1700 meter communications modules

The A1700 meter supports a range of plug-in modules that fit under the main cover. The modules can be inserted into the meter without removing power or affecting the meter certification.
An RS232 module enables direct connection to any RS232 communication device. To reduce communications costs, up to 10 meters can be multi-dropped over a distance of 12 metres.

Module Types

RS 232 Module
The RS232 module allows direct connection to any RS232 communications device through a standard 25-way D-type connector. The module provides a 10V 80mA supply to power a modem. A row of terminals allows several meters to be connected in multi-drop mode, therefore reducing communication costs.

RS 485 Module
A standard RS232 modem, powered by a 10V 80mA supply, can be connected via the 25-way D-type connector. The module converts RS232 to RS485, allowing 32 meters to be multi-dropped over a distance of 1.2 km.

RS485 connection and multi-drop is via the RJ45 (optional RJ11) sockets. The module allows ease of installation by using standard plug-in connectors by linking from one meter to the next. There are no other connections to make.
